Hi, i dont know if anyone can answer this but here goes, the line is getting overhead electrics, the building work is well under way, but can i ask what are they doing at Roby Station it looks to me like they are making space for a third track to be laid.. they have dug out the old station platform which was filled in many years ago. and it looks like Huyton will be done at a later stage. the clearing work goes almost through to Broadgreen... ? Any ideas Chaps

Hiya....I'm told that they are adding another line, to speed up the faster trains......like an overtaking lane!!!! Stopping trains will go over to the left, so the faster trains can go straight through!!! I like the idea as I often get the 16:57 or 17:19 Lime Street fast to Huyton home.....and this sometimes gets held up due to the preceeding slow trains not getting out of my way!!! :-)
They've also started to clear the waste ground between Huyton station and the bus station too.

This section was originally 4 lines when I first started work in Huyton Telephone Exchange. I used to have my dinner on the wall overlooking the tracks and watch the trains passing through. There were 4 Lines all the way from the Edge Hill Station to where the tracks divide to St. Helens Central and Wigan.

Very interesting document. Unfortunately they can't go any further towards Edge Hill with the four lines as the M62 bridge over the tracks is only 2 lines wide. It would mean major engineering works and disruption to alter it.
