As we start the New year in dismal wet and windy weather, thoughts turn to summer and the air show season. Most of the big annual shows have already declared their dates for 2014.
There are a number of sites which collate and publish this information on the web, the best sites also update regularly during the season. These sites are those that I've found best for covering air show listings, some are more comprehensive than others while some are more diligent at entering new information. Many sites have much more on them than just an air show listing, so looking at their home page can lead to other useful information.
www.airshows.org.uk/2014/calendar/uk-airshow-calendar.html
www.airscene.co.uk/2014-UK-Airshow-Dates.php
www.britishairshows.com/calendar.html
www.royalaeroclub.org/eventuk.htm
www.deltaweb.co.uk/asgcal/index.htm
www.milavia.net/airshows/calendar/showdates-2014-europe.html
www.aeroflight.co.uk/shows/airshows-country/airshow-dates-united-kingdom.htm
There are other sites which have good coverage of the smaller, local airfield fly-in events. While a few are known, it is usually March-April before many club level events are given publicity.
www.bmaa.org/events.php (British Microlight Aircraft Association, in mid January few 2014 event yet listed)
www.aerobatics.org.uk/events-info.htm (British Aerobatics Association, 2014 programme published)
www.britishairracing.com/2014-season/ (British Air Racing, 2014 programme published)
ukga.com/event/ (U.K. General Aviation, in mid January few events entered onto calendar 2014)
www.lightaircraftassociation.co.uk (for 2014 link to Royal Aero Club listing)
www.bbac.org (British Balloon and Aerostats Club)
www.prba.org.uk (Pennine Region Balloon Association, 2014 programme published)
www.balloonevents.org (Worldwide listing of Ballooning events)
A number of the operators of aircraft appearing at Air Displays also maintain their own websites and list the venues at which they will be appearing, eg:
www.raf.mod.uk/reds/displayinfo/displaydates.cfm
www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf
www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances.html
www.twisterduo.com/content/schedule.html
www.aerosuperbatics.com
Venue airfields, locations and operators have their own websites, often useful for transport details, entrance fees and times etc., so are always worth a 'Google' to see what information they offer.
It is my intention to compile a list of the Northern (Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Gt Manchester, Shropshire, North Wales and Yorkshire) events, large and small in the N.W.Region Section of the forum. Do PM me if you have favourite air display sites to add.
