Tonight Monday 8.30pm whilst in Frodsham some idiot was firing a very powerful green lazer into the hotel restaurant from the area of the War Memorial on The hill overlooking the river and is also under the downwind leg for the 27 runway at the airport. I contacted Cheshire police and then tried to contact the airport to give hopefully ATC the heads up about the lazer. Try as i might there appears to be no way to contact anyone who could help me do that. I did speak to someone in probably a security hut who said he had only one number in case of emergency, I tried that and Nothing no answer or voice mail. I tried a random route of LF club and Ravenair from web details and nothing like a human voice to be found. In these days of terror threats at the very worst, how does anyone get in touch with people at LJL in ATC or even a duty officer ??

Sadly these laser attacks are getting more common. Two or three nights ago while working away listening to the radio, an easyJet into Manchester reported one. Luckily the police helicopter directed ground units to apprehend the subject, as it was flying back to base it got lasered. Again same thing happened and they got them. However what the punishment is, is another matter. Surely its endangering an aircraft and therefore terrorism and should be treated as such with a lengthy jail term as a deterrent. No doubt slap on the wrist is all they'll get. -.-

There was a case a few years ago, when somebody was jailed for this. He was unfortunate to come up against a judge, an experienced pilot and a member of AOPA.
Sadly, since then, for some inexplicable reason, the CAA have been given powers to prosecute these people, with the maximum sentence being effectively, a slap on the wrist.
By the way did you know that uniquely in UK, the CAA have powers to prosecute which the police and CPA do not and they have the power to charge for the cost of a prosecution. if they win their case.

I've never understood why these green lasers can be bought so readily. As far as I know the only use for them is to shine at 'things' and annoy people. Surely, we could start by making them illegal to buy or own?

The non-emergency Police number is 101, not 111

To quote LPL from a previous thread dated 30th Jan 2011 "Unsavoury Characters" Phone the Police on 999 the Airport Police hotline on 07764 656490 with details of the place, time and other relevant information such as a car registration number (this last bit taken from the FoLA website).
I used to have it on my mobile but it's no-longer there, cant remember deleting it either. Perhaps someone from FoLA may be able to let us know if it still exists.

Spot on Ron. This was taken from a post by superian under the heading "Laser Light Incident" on 22 Oct 2009. Taken from the BBC news website, a bit of good news.....
A man has been jailed for a year after pointing a green laser light at a police helicopter. Andrew McKee, 41, of Hermit Street, Islington, north London, was found guilty of negligently and recklessly endangering an aircraft. He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment following a hearing at Blackfriars Crown Court. Detective Constable Heider Ghosseiri, who led the inquiry, said McKee's actions could have caused a crash. "I am pleased that he was found guilty by an unanimous verdict," he said. "This will serve as a warning to others that what might appear to be a harmless prank could actually have serious implications." 'Strong message' McKee was arrested in July 2007 after a police helicopter pilot reported a green laser light was pointing at him as he responded to an incident. Officers on the ground traced the source of the light to an address in Hermit Street. Police worked with Ministry of Defence scientists to undertake extensive research to prove McKee endangered the helicopter. After a five-day trial, he was convicted of breaching the Air Navigation Order 2005. Sergeant John Gleeson, of the police's Air Support Unit, said: "We believe it is important that the courts send out a strong message to deter this practice and emphasise the inherent danger of shining lasers at any aircraft." In April, UK police reported a "phenomenal" increase in the number of incidents in which aircraft are targeted by small hand-held lasers. In 2008, there were 69 times as many such incidents as in 2003. Colour changed as it plays havoc with my eyes being colour blind. Regards Beemer.

An Airport Police Officer was asked last night at our meeting and his response was to 'always report it to 999' as it is a situation that needs immediate attention and could result in a very serious incident. Merseyside/Cheshire Police have contact numbers for the Airport/ATC but initial contact should always be via the Police. Help that helps.
