An utter disgrace.
Serious questions need asking of Balfour Beatty and Blackpool Council.
No fudging. Real answers.

I believe that there is likely to be some kind of 'new structure' to the airport 'opening' on the 16th of November, the exact form that this takes it still somewhat unclear but it appears that it may allow CityWing to resume operations. It could be something similar to how Carlisle now operates.
Doesn't seem to be any hints for what will happen between 15th of October & 16th November, maybe the based operators will be allowed to continue with the airfield unlicenced?
So it's probable that the airfield will still be available for non-commercial aircraft beyond the closure, although there is still ample confusion about exactly what will happen & when! From what I can tell the owners of aircraft based at Blackpool are largely staying put for now at least.

It's become an unclear picture for what the impact on non-commercial operations would be. Today's speculative reports seem to be more negative in nature, suggesting that talks have been taking place for early termination of leases which would look to the casual observer more like a full closure on the 15th. CityWing have made an announcement which allures to some kind of re-commencement of operations on the 16th of November. See hereWestair also put a post up on Facebook about operations beyond the 'closure' of the airport. See hereStephen

Quote from the beeb today:Citywing operates flights to the Isle of Man and Belfast from Blackpool. The airline has said it will suspend its flights to Blackpool from 15 October for four weeks while it takes "an active part" in discussions to find a way to re-open the airport.Managing director, David Buck, said: 'Unfortunately, our discussions with a nearby airport to provide temporary facilities while Blackpool Airport's issues are resolved proved unworkable.
I assume the alternative airport was Warton and not Liverpool? I hope so anyway.

....but the return flight of G-GDFG returned to MAN from Alicante, with passengers now being bussed to Blackpool.
So the last Jet2 aircraft to depart BLK was not the 737, G-GDFG in the video. It was actually G-CELJ, positioning out to MAN at 17.06, after arriving at 15.47 from Faro.

I assume the alternative airport was Warton and not Liverpool? I hope so anyway. Well given that they said the airport they were talking to was within '10 miles' of Blackpool I think you are correct in saying that.

Thanks for the clarification lpl, however they did not mention 10 miles in the bbc article. So sorry if that caused offence to any one.

I am a great fan of local airports and am very ad to see this day. I wish they had kept to the original wooden shed with the odd DC-3/Handley Page Herald shuttling to and from the Irish sea destinations, then they would not be in this mess.
This is not as facetious as it may at first sound.
We have a very small airport at La Rochelle which in the winter operates 3 or 4 flights a day, but in the summer goes up to about 20 at weekends (Mostly 737-800/A320). To manage the extra load, large tents are erected for the landside waiting areas, including the café. Of course we have better weather than Blackpool but it works and has a certain charm. The point is, we have our airport without it being a millstone through the financing a bricks and mortar for a waiting room, empty for one half of the year and a good part of every day.
From the operational standpoint the airport operates to a certain category for the scheduled guys. At the end of the scheduled flying day, the airport and the airspace reverts to a lower level so we can all get on with our lives without the bureaucracy that the "Ryanair Effect" condemns us to. (I can fly into la Rochelle non radio after hours, even operating the lights myself, if I want to, and the ILS still works) The French can be so clever and practical at times.
