LFC v St.Etienne Wed 16/3/77
Blimey,I`d forgotten just what a great day it was!
At one time there were 34 airliners including 12 Caravelles. That makes 32 Avons with six more arriving after the match!
I had a Latin exam in the morning and didn`t get to Speke `til 1245..................Do any kids DO Latin any more??
BTW Liverpool won 3:1
acta est fabula plaudite

When I saw my first British Eagle 1-11s. This was the start of the first regular jet service at LPL. 1966 I believe.
Equal to that was an Aer Lingus 720 on a charter to NYC in early summer 1967.

Yes, I remember there was always a buzz around the place when we knew one of those was coming in. Always seemed to be plenty of staff around on those days!

Yes, the 720 was good.
I have a photo which I will look for, showing this machine, and in the same shot, a Viscount, a DC-3 and a DH89A. What a great span of years there.

The firemens strikes at Ringway in 1979,seeing 3 boeing 747's parked up on runway 26/08 was fantastic. in particular CP air,a great colour scheme, pity they got absorbed by canadian a few years later.it was the events of this year that got me started in the hobby.the noise and smell of British Airways tridents parked on the main apron as you climbed the steps to the balcony will live in the mind forever.

Yes mokum1 I remember this from the Wirral looking over when I got the bug of seeing them and later flying in a Vickers Viscount to East Midlands Airport and spotting there and flying back later that day going we were going to take-off on the new runway but taxi back to go from 08 or is it 26 going over the River Mersey? so I was made up in this decision from the pilot and after Les and a few others leaving to go to Paris Airshow 1981 trip then of a lifetime my first time away out of the country.
