Is the old control tower in anyway accessible? Is there access to the top anymore?

Ah, now I know an answer to this one, as it is an FAQ.
In short the answer is no. When Neptune Deveplopments redesigned the building from a derelict former airport terminal into a hotel, they initially proposed a VIP 'penthouse' at the top of the tower. However, health and safety/fire buildings regulations prevented its use without major fire escape provision (which in turn were undesirable as they would alter the Art Deco exterior). So the tower base became the 'Honeymoon Suite' VIP bedroom (the same space as is refered to in another recent post on a different thread as a crisp and ice cream shop on peak days, and a space I well recall being chased out of on my bicycle!).
Access is not possible to the tower top to the public, even on special request, although I would assume that there is some form of maintenance access. There are some who would like to see the Hotel management place a few uniformed manaquins up there on ATC 'duty', to bring the building back to life!

The tower these days is just a hollow tube. The only access to the top I believe is via a ladder bolted to the inside. So safe to say the likes of us lot will never be allowed up there!

Unless we go back to the old days (60's & 70's) and ignore H&S together with all the other regulations and pop up there anyway. The worst that would happen to us back then was being told to hop it ;D
