Flew over to see my daughter and family in Nov. 18th to 25th in and out from Geneva--no camera-doh. On our return we stayed in the holiday inn as the flight was open from 5am--take off 7.00. The hotel was A1--English draught ale--Liverpool on the telly--scousers to talk to.A brilliant session. But before going to the hotel I took a little walk around the old airport buildings--I could hardly recognise it. However as a neared the large right hand hanger where the exotics used to park years ago(like the Fred Olsen C-46 etc.) I noticed a gate ajar and a notice saying balcony closed except for maintenance. The temptation was too great so I wandered through and onto the balcony for a few minutes--just to check the maintenance of course. It was like dropping back to the old days--the Jetstream seemed almost as big as a viscount and the Brit looked just great though unfinished. How I wish airports still had the superb spotting facilities provided in those days--the experience of standing where I used to spot in the 50s and 60s was a bit moving. Its the last time I shall stand there no doubt but it was worth the risk. It is still the best place ever to study aircraft up close. My vantage points at Chambery,Lyon and Geneva just don't compare.

Well done that man. What a way to achieve one of life's ambitions and in the true tradition of the 50's/60's spotter. I hope you had a traditional reply ready if you had got caught. I think the most common were; What notice, I didn't see any notice sir or; Sorry sir, I can't read sir. ;D ;D

Dave was actually just wondering why it had been put in the category "History and Memories from Further A(ir)field" when the subject is about our balcony? Unless the original poster considers himself to be a History and Memory from Further A(ir)field ;D

;D
Sadly my most favourite airport in the world is now further afield for me.
Still home is where the heart is and from choice I would fly into or out from no other.
Sorry if thisis in the wrong place Dave--blame the emotions.LOL
