Just been reading that council given permission to demolish the terminal building at Blackpool. Then build two storey college on the site with two 12m stupid wind turbines.

What will happen to the current residents, the Museum and the big J Max hangar?
Bloody ridiculous if they demolish the terminal building, the council should of purchased the airport along with some local authorities and kept the airport going, Balfour Beatty had no intention of investing in the airport.
Got to blame to Government also with it's stupid austerity cut's which have affected all the councils especially in our region.

G-PHIL, as far as I am aware it is only the site of the terminal, land-side terminal approach roads, along with adjacent car parking and former airliner apron that are to be used by the new education site - the existing airfield, hangars and associated hangar aprons will remain with a general aviation airfield function. The construction of the college is on a land 'footprint' that is currently (and has for the past year) not had any aviation function. The former terminal was totally gutted by the sale of all fixtures and fittings by auction, and likely the deserted structure is already suffering from water ingress and if not already, will soon be beyond economic repair. It is impossible to conceive that it would ever be required for its former function again. It is not as though it is a listed building of architectural merit (indeed more the opposite), and certainly no realistic function in its current form.
Aviation at Blackpool is far from finished yet.

Viscount is correct , the existing Terminal serves no current purpose , has not been operational for 12 months plus and has been gutted of equipment. The existing hangar areas are all in the new enterprise development zone. Most likely the existing aviation activity will move closer to the main runway with a new build scaled down set of facilities. Taxiways converted to apron etc. Far cheaper to maintain one main runway with adjacent new build facilities , and get rid of the old stuff , it also keeps a buffer between Blackpool and the Fylde.
The days of 737's have gone , but absolutely no reason why a GA operation cannot continue and be viable , especially if Bond continue to operate from the site.
This is a new era , and the college development is the catalyst to kick start investment , I doubt the airfield will shut , but it will be different in the future. Remember the old Liverpool Airport has gone and the same happened on that site but it has a relocated airport facility almost within site of the old Terminal !! Coincidence or not :-)
