I was talking to one of my French neighbours recently. He told me of when he worked for a short time in the "Nord d'Angleterre" From time to time he spent the day at Southport where he was surprised to see "Leetle beeplanes flying from Le Plage."
Small world. Brings back a few memories for me too.

Fox Moth G-AOJH was in a different scheme in the days I knew her during the Sixties at Liverpool (see PHB's Airport History book, with a colour plate of her at Liverpool). More likely Giro Aviation's G-ACEJ all silver flying off the beach at Southport. One of the regrets of my life is that as a young teenager I never managed to persuade my parents that the pleasure of a joy ride in 'JH at Liverpool well outweighed the risk!

Yes it was in a red and yellow scheme, as Viscount explains. I was lucky enough to work for Harry Patterson, the owner, along with a very attractive young lady who lived in Hunt's Cross. We went to Southport quite a few times, and also to Cosford for the air show, and once to Kidlington. 'CEJ did fly from Southport, but I think it was after 'OJH. We were there about 1960/61 (I think!). Harry Patterson and his wife used to run a cafe 'under the bridge' in Garston, but when the pleasure flight business began to decline and insurance became more expensive, he gave it up, sold the cafe and moved away.

I also had my first ever flight at Southport beach about 1954/5. The aircraft was a high winged monoplane, possibly an Auster type, does anyone have photo's or regs for that era. I sat in the front seat with my younger brother on my knee ,no elf and safety then !
