Affinity have been awarded a £1.1bn contract for next stage of RAF fixed wing training. To cover 23 Grob 120 TP, 10 Beechcraft T6C and 5 Phenom 100. Hawks already exist after this first stage.
doesnt seem many aircraft when you consider how many they used to need to train pilots for the RAF. Suppose if you only have about 7 front line squadrons you don't need many pilots. Even worse none of the aircraft are UK built

The Government PR statement on the award of this long anticipated contract: www.gov.uk/government/news/11-billion-investment-by-mod-in-future-military-flying-trainingThe Grob 120 Prefects will replace the current Grob 115 Tutors for initial pilot training/selection. The T-6 Texans replace the currrent Tucano fleet (although the number seems very small to 'feed' 24 Hawk T.2s), while the Phenoms will replace the current King Airs. Although there is nothing regarding bases in the glossy announcement today, it has been widely leaked that the Texans at least will join the Hawks at RAF Valley.

So ,if 23 Grob 120s are to replace the, some 99-100,Tutors wonder where that will leave the ATC Cadets regarding air experience flying? Probably zilch. And this in their 75th Anniversary year.Like, this Friday 5th Feb.
As you say,anything British? We can't/won't even build a trainer.For Heaven's sake!

As far as I am aware the contract that provides the Air Cadet Grob 115s is separate from the MFWTS Contract. Read the press release, it is careful to state the Grob 120s will replace the existing initial pilot training fleet, which to me indicates those Grobs currently flown from Barkston Heath. Could be wrong - there is much not stated clearly in the announcement referenced to in my post above.
