Thank you Cambrian5619 for the reminder - indeed, it should be a good afternoon; we hope for a good turnout to support our local airport. Robin Tudor, the airport's PR guru, will be giving the latest updates and news from the airport and no doubt answer any of your questions. Slight change to the poster above - We've only recently found out that the hotel has stopped doing Sunday lunches, sorry if you were looking forward to a roast, but it will have bar meals and snacks available instead. FoLA :-)

Hi. Did any interesting information come out at the event?

All depends on what you find interesting.
It was a great shame more public and enthusiasts did not turn up to support this event. Airport history, aircraft of SAHG open for close inspection, representatives from JWT Pilgrimages, Thomsons, Liverpool Aero Club (along with a flight sim), FoLA and others. Listened to a newly prepared (to incorporate recent changes) illustrated address by Robin Tudor regarding the current position and the recent progress made by the Airport. Nothing new, but good to hear all the developments put together in a presentation. Very positive reaction too from the audience.
It was the sort of afternoon where people needed to be there in person though.

Thanks Did they talk about a new Master Plan?

The future was addressed in terms of the release of funding to update the terminal - mainly in terms of the already commenced rolling programme of opening up the window space to provide more light, changes to people flow, floor coverings (yes that '08 carpet) and toilet facilities, with the intention on moving from changes to departures, into updating arrivals next winter. Along with already announced route developments and the desire to attract more inbound airlines and develop routes serving interline hubs. It was not the sort of event to launch news of new developments, but one did get a feeling of real confidence in the future and that there are more announcements in the pipeline. The new master plan was not asked about, it needed more of us to be there to provide the audience receptive to a wider scope of searching questions asked both formally and informally.

I have relatives who popped along and they were given a strong hint that Thomson would be announcing a Tenerife route soon. Apparently bookings on the Palma route this Summer are very good too.

As an aviation enthusiast who spent many happy hours spotting at the old terminal, from the late sixties up to the closure of the old building it was great to have the opportunity to get up on the spectators balcony again and look down on the apron below with the static aircraft now on view there.
The fact that the two main hangars have also been retained in their new roles on either side of the terminal makes it possible to appreciate what it used to look like back then. Although the interior of the building has been drastically altered to serve its new role as a hotel it is still possible to visualise what it used to look like when it was an active Airport Terminal.

The Palma route was announced last April, so we may hear something next month.

Perhaps it's not too late. Vueling has only just announced a route from MAN to TFS for a July 16 start. They may still be deciding what to do with any remaining capacity given the withdrawal of services to Egypt and Tunisia.

I have bemoaned the sparsity of Tenerife many times. I feel someone could fill a couple of flights a day to Tenerife but there just does not seem anyone prepared to operate a daily frequency
