Not totally strictly by the airport but Hale is pretty close, we had a huge European Eagle Owl land and sit on our back lawn early evening, but still total daylight two days ago. My nephew who is well into birds contacted wild wings in Warrington who have been tracking it. Think it's escaped/been released. Apparently a vicious predator, if anyone sees it they are requested to ring 07957416883
Didn't get a photo as wasn't expecting such a monstrous thing to land on our back lawn! It was apparently the first sighting for a bit.

Further to post above, son had taken photo of said Eagle Owl on his i phone. Not therefore a great shot but I am sure someone cleverer than I am can enlarge this and clean it up a bit. Worth noting stunned face on one of our ageing moggies who stood totally still either in shock or terror!! IMG_2210 by Clive Harden, on Flickr

Just tried to enlarge it Clive but it becomes pixelated. The original would work OK though. Send it to my e-mail address and I will try. Regards Beemer. brianlthompson@btinternet.com

Well done with the enlargements, apart from in a zoo suspect my first Eagle Owl. Looking at the beast hope it doesn't come back, from the lawn it went and sat on next doors low extension roof. The noise of all the other birds was amazing. Diving down at it, even a Heron was standing on the greenhouse watching the action. When it flew off all the other birds continued to pursue it. Presumably trying to chase it away
