A clear sky helps with OTT spotting and cooler conditions will improve photos no end but there are a few "advance notice" tips to help you find out if traffic will be busy or not. Today was rubbish ! But Why ? The sky was clear this aft... I knew things wouldnt be good early this morning. I didnt even bother getting my gear out. Heres how to get a heads up so to speak. If you take a look at todays NAT track map (eastbound). You can see I have marked our NWAN region with the red arrow, the only NAT exit point where aircraft would have to pass OTT our zone was GITSI on Nat track "tango". Not good. Nat tracks westbound, the only good candidate for our zone being DOGAL entry point (track Alpha) to exit at NEEKO MALOT would be fine for us normally but the jetstream direction isnt in our favor today so aircraft are likely to pass ott the south of england and use the jetstream to "help" them head north on a free ride to join NAT track bravo at MALOT. The nat tracks are too far south of us. May as well give up for photos today 26th .... incidentally ,A cold front is approaching us (mid atlantic) and there is a transition warm/cold in the far north atlantic (storm connor). The jetstream is marked in yellow. Thunderstorm activity zones are marked by a green cloud. NAT tracks updated twice daily, sometimes 3 times. Heres a key to symbols You can get the latest maps and more, all on one web page here www.perkins-aviation.ch/weather/NorthAtlantic.htmlHope this helps.

No problems crumb , Looking at the maps @ 17.45 today 27th , it looks like things are better tomorrow early morning, the sky should be full of contrails incoming/eastbound over our zone. I guess the guys at NATS "London Control" will be busy on the radio early morning in our (NWAN) sectors as several atlantic track exit points route nearby. Westbound for 28th with the hotspot busy time around 10.30-13.00 also not too bad at all, with NAT tracks delta at entry PIKIL and echo at entry SUNOT are in use to Chicago,Canada, New York and the eastern USA. Routing across our zone to GONUP for "nat charlie" is a an even money bet also. Companies will likely to use these tracks heading out West from major cities in Europe and the Gulf. Clear sky/low temp forecast for 28th.

A key to what you see on the NAT tracks page I gave earlier. I thought I should seeing there were in excess of 400 reads for this post For those in the know, sorry if I am teaching you how to suck eggs. An example key for Eastbound NAT report for track Sierra (S) this evening Above information Translated into a Map of Track S for today Thats all for now, Latest tracks/maps/weather, even Aurora Borealis forecast www.perkins-aviation.ch/weather/NorthAtlantic.htmlor The same NAT track information is also on the page below but displayed in a different way blackswan.ch/wordpress/?page_id=73Both sites are well maintained and contain the latest reports. Its better to have 2 sources in case my primary (perkins) is unavailable Hope this helps.
