It's noted elsewhere that Lime Street to Euston trains are expected to double in frequency (to two per hour) with effect from December.

No, but I suggest you look at the CAA statistics for LHR to MAN. Latest figures are for January, total is 44k, down 13% on the same period last year (pre coronavirus). That's around 1500 a day or 750 each way. Spread across 7 arrivals and departures per day, it's around 100 per flight. You could argue that you could split that, 3 flights to LPL and 4 to MAN, but at 100 per flight it's getting close to being marginal. If the reduction in passengers continues its trend over recent years, you would need to reduce to 2 flights per day rather quickly and you aren't really connecting with anything on those frequencies.

Would be interesting in comparison to know how many travel by train Sadly, rail travel statistics appear to be "commercially sensitive" which is odd given many routes are quasi monopolies.

It's noted elsewhere that Lime Street to Euston trains are expected to double in frequency (to two per hour) with effect from December. This has been called for, for sometime now so good that it happening at last. I always think South Parkway should be added to the London fast service, say one to call there and one at Runcorn.

Great idea but the platforms are not long enough at Parkway. Two years ago when Lime St was closed temp extensions were put in but I think they have now been taken away.

Couple of points regarding the situation at Liverpool South Parkway (LSP). Avanti West Coast have stated they will have a service stopping at LSP w.e.f. DECEMBER 2022 This will be possible on the new trains they have ordered from Hitachi which will have selective door controls thus allowing use of the 'short' platforms at LSP. Pendilinos will be retained and refurbished, Voyagers will be retired from Avanti West Coast.

Yes i remember that , could any platforms be extend there I wonder ? Or if not could a train use just open carriage doors that met existing platform , this does happen elsewhere around the country, like just the front or rear section.of a train.

Platforms 1 and 2 are restricted by Allerton Junction to the south and Mather Avenue road bridge to the north.

I have read that Avanti will be using the replacements for the Voyagers for the second service. Not sure what they are getting but it could be similar to the Nova trains on Transpennine. (I used one yesterday to go Lime St to Edinburgh). Impressive, clean, roomy. Maximum speed 125mph and running on electric and diesel traction. Virgin West Coast has also abandoned its plan to run an open access service Liverpool to London. However, LSP does have two services an hour to London, via Birmingham: slow, I know, but it does get there and is considerably cheaper than Avanti. It also opens up a lot more destinations for people who comes though LJLA and wish to connect at LSP.

The new trains for Avanti are from Hitachi Rail and are a bi-mode traction variant of the AT300 www.railtechnologymagazine.com/Rail-News/350m-contract-for-hitachi-rail-to-build-new-avanti-west-coast-trains-I think the pair of show trains in the photo at Birmingham New St were shipped over from Japan. Looks like the AT300 Bi-Mode sets will be 7 car as opposed to 9 car sets on the existing class 390 Pendolino

Don't know where you got the information that Eastern operate 4 return MAN-SOU per day.
It is in fact only 2.
The route can well take a further 3 return flights per day. Flybe operated 5/6 per day, which were well subscribed.
