Interesting that the Titan was due to do two rotations from Manchester to Bratislava today but has returned to Gatwick after just one trip.

I'm only guessing here, but I imagine Wynne Aviation, having built up a good business in the last few years; a much needed boost to the airport too; would have something to say about the airport opening times.

TNT operation. Some time ago there was talk of increased use of TNT building at LPL. With the increased amount of Courier flights around the world,DHL,UPS,FedEx, during this Pandemic, TNT seems to be noticeably absent. Any info available.

TNT was bought by FedEx four years ago and as far as I am aware now only has a trucking operation in the U.K.(including a facility at LJLA)

Just as I suspected. Another building blocking airside expansion opportunities. Unlikely to see anything other than current ad-hoc freight ops at LPL in present situation. Even MCR, from FR24 observations, doesn't seem to be benefitting from increased cargo flights due to reduced scheduled flight cargo hold space. EMA & STN seem to be 24 hour ops rather than just night flights.

Point in question, Kalitta B747 just left EMA for LAX. Credit FR24.

And what does that have to do with Liverpool? Seeing as our runway is not long enough for a 747 to LAX.

The TNT cargo facility is included in the airport Masterplan so can hardly be counted as blocking airside expansion. East Midlands is the largest freight airport in the country - not even Manchester can compete so we’re going to have to ’make do’ with ad hoc freight for now.

And what does that have to do with Liverpool? Seeing as our runway is not long enough for a 747 to LAX. I was only saying about increased cargo/courier flights being more 24hour ops than just night flights at moment. Lot different to the spokes from speke mail flights with the likes of twin otters etc. from yesteryear. Distant memories. EMA invested in a runway extension and reaped the rewards.

I'm defending myself here. I think EMA had negotiated with the courier/freight companies before spending the money on the extension. It's proximity to the M1 is a big assett. As part of the Manchester Airport Group, MCR & EMA are interconnected. Finally, I think LPL will be putting their Masterplan back in the drawer for a while, unless there's a big turnaround in the market.

Press (Liverpool Business News) web-article on the upcoming award of 'Freeport' status to Liverpool John Lennon Airport: lbndaily.co.uk/freeport-set-for-take-off-at-liverpool-airport/While I cannot fault the statements regarding recent freight traffic at JLA, it fails to suggest what changes or additional traffic the award of the Freeport status will have. Hopefully plenty, although I'm personally not getting excited just yet. My thanks to George Jones for bringing the link to our attention.
