Saw an article in the press yesterday which stated that RAF Valley had grounded some or all of the Hawks due to a problem with the ejection seats. I presume it is the older models and not the latest version An yet another depressing article in The Times today sees the Government looking at removing Tornado sqadrons as part of cost saving to help remove the massive debt Labour left them with. they are also looking at Harrier Joint Units and some bases which will be a laugh as I am unsure if we have any left to close. I can gaurantee though that Argentina will be watching these sweeping cuts to our military capabilities very very closely. I reckon also the I.O.M could stand a chance with an attemoted invasion if they cut enough of the little we have left now.

I doubt if any of the cuts would affect MPA (Mount Pleasant Airfield). The MoD has invested a huge amount of money there to protect the oil in the area - take a look at Google earth. We can't have the IOM attacked though - we need those kippers and queenies - they should never have closed Jurby!

Tell the Argentinian Government that. Investing "Huge" amounts of money to protect the now public declared oil find will only be useful if we have a Navy and Air Force and military units and personel to do the job of defending the Islands which is what the islanders want. We haven`t got the Naval resources we had, nor the Air Force which is accoording to this report going to be reduced further and as for personel the cuts look to be probably draconian. I have family serving now. The Argies kicked up enough fuss about the Tyhoon beind deployed not that long ago if you recall.
