I have just started to transfer all of my paper based records to an electronic format - it will take some time. I underlined Transair Canada DC-7 CF-TAY in my CAM of 1968 as having been seen at Manchester. Was this a regular visitor? I suspect it would have been 1967 or 1968 when seen and during a summer month. I also have D-ADAC of Transportflug, N373WA or World, N703PA of Pan Am undated and can't recall if these were all on the same day or 1 visit in 1967 and 1 in 1968. Unfortunately I disposed of my 1966 and 1967 editions of CAM which might have helped tie a date down (as I did keep my 1965 copy when I was also recording the date seen as well). I do have a record of G-AWER at Manchester which must have been in 1968 but I don't know if records of light aircraft visits to Manchester are available in the way in which Liverpool visiting aircraft have been documented elsewhere on the Forum. Regards Rob

If nobody comes up with an answer for you an option is to purchase the 1960-69 visitors cd/stick from the TAS shop either online or at the airport viewing park shop Hope this helps Richard

Using the MSAE "Flypast" monthly Manchester movements highlight summary list, plus a check of the dates I could consider for each of the registrations listed, I do have "hits" for all 4 - BUT they could well have been in more often than the dates selected by the Flypast editor. Went through 3 years 1966 to 1968.
CF-TAY Douglas DC-7 Transair (9/65-9/70) called on Tuesday (corrected) 28th June 1966. Only Transair flight that I noticed recorded in the 1966-1968 period.
D-ADAC Douglas DC-4 Transportflug (AllAir 2/67-3/69 Transportflug 3/69-10/70). Called with AllAir (an abbreviation of something longer) Wednesday 24th May 1967, nothing noted in 1968.
N373WA Boeing 707 World (7/63-8/73) noted on: 2nd, 3rd & 17th June & 29th July 1967 also 19th June & 18th October 1968 - possibly other visits too. During summer 1968 it appears that World called at least 3 times weekly in high season.
N703PA Boeing 707 Pan Am (12/59-12/73) noted on 6th February 1967 as a LHR Dvt and again Wednesday 16th July 1968.
I've provided Rob with the Excel folders of the Speke movements for 1965 to 1969 to speed his research into Liverpool visitors. Unlike the NWAN posted list, the Excel version is fully searchable.

Thanks for the replies - 16th July 1968 fits for the Pan Am B707 - it would have been a school trip that also included a visit to Jodrell Bank. With respect to CF-TAY I have some records of a visit to Manchester on Saturday 25th June 1966 (so 28th wouldn't have been a Friday). 25th June had DC-7 N774R on the ground (it had been impounded) and I don't recall the Transair that day. I will send off for some of the Manchester movements sticks as they could be very helpful. I'll have to look up old diaries regarding 1967 - one of those Saturday's in June might well be the day I first saw N373WA.
Regards
Rob

Sorry, 28th June 1966 was a Tuesday - I've likely picked up the wrong '60s diary to translate date into day of the week. As you mention being at Manchester on 25th June 1966, "Flypast" lists the notable visitors that day as being: N716PA Boeing 707-321 Pan-American, from New York N774R Douglas DC-7B (44868) Rank Organisation, left on 28/6. OD-AES Comet 4C MEA, operating a Caledonian I/T G-ATMF Douglas DC-7CF (44873) Trans Meridian, to Jeddah. Also 28/6.
Mark Williams in "Sixties Ringway - Manchester Airport 1960-1969" for 25th June only makes mention of the need for Caledonian to use the MEA Comet as a substitute for a Britannia, departing for Valencia Friday evening, returning at 0612, morning of Saturday 25th. However on flicking through other pages for late June, spotted that he has included a b&w photo of Douglas DC-7 CF-TAY with the caption "Transair was a new Canadian operator to Ringway. The 28th June's evening visit visit of CF-TAY was the first of four appearances over the next four weeks, arriving from Winnipeg via Gander". Which rather confirms the 'Flypast' date. Mark's book is great for looking up highlight movements by date and is excellent for a read through as the various highlights and events for each month through the decade are related. However, searching for a particular aircraft without clues as to when to search is nigh on impossible.

Brian/Richard - thanks for your help on this. I am now in possession of the Ringway Movements CD and can confirm that CF-TAY was present at Ringway on Monday 25th July 1966 - the second of 2 visits made with the family in 1966, the first having been on Saturday 25th June 1966. Based on other aircraft underlined in my CAM of 1968 I have concluded that I was probably at Ringway on Saturday 17th June for N373WA and 16th July 1968 definitely for the Pan Am N703PA and also D-ADAC operating LH942 showing as a regular for July 1968 including 16th and 17th. Regards, Rob
