Good time also to look at the arrivals area. There will be surplus baggage belts sat at DSA which could be moved over at low cost. UK Border is rather gloomy and small. Maybe it could be extended into the current domestic arrivals area, which maybe could occupy the old Royal Mail building.

Ground power pick ups to be installed on stands 1-3 and 51-53 this year stands 4-7 to be completed next year. Great to get rid of those smelly diesel units pumping out black smoke all the while they run!

once the jet2 base is up and running LJLA will be an alternate for any jet2 diversions from neighbouring airports, this was not possible up to now as jet2 are self handling so would only divert to where they had a base.

I wondered that too. We take plenty of LBA diverts for Ryanair / Wixzz, so hopefully the Jet2 will come here too.

I think this might of been a clever move on behalf of Jet2, with all of the recent problems Man has had over the last year or two (security waits & lack of stands at certain times etc) the move to JLA makes sense.
Those delays must have impacted on their bottom line to some degree so diversification to an airport were delays are minimal and congestion is not a problem (yet) makes sense both for them and their customers.
We can only hope Tui and others see the potential benefits and do the same.

They are coming here because they cant put more aircraft in there as there isnt the space, and thats one of the reasons we have had a big increase in biz jets stopping here at LPL.

I often book flights and direct with hotel in Tenerife. However used Jet2 ex Man last year for Tenerife and Gran Canaria this year. Both times far superior to Tui for a package.I will certainly use them from liverpool

I think in a discussion it’s only fair to counter some of the debate here I think this might of been a clever move on behalf of Jet2, with all of the recent problems Man has had over the last year or two (security waits & lack of stands at certain times etc) the move to JLA makes sense. Those delays must have impacted on their bottom line to some degree so diversification to an airport were delays are minimal and congestion is not a problem (yet) makes sense both for them and their customers. Firstly, the Jet2 and Manchester airport relationship remains as strong as ever. There is a switch out to larger aircraft (B737 to A321), and the commitment to the 3rd A330 this summer, as well as as keeping the A330 over winter, to which the aircraft normally goes off lease back to Air Tanker. That doesn’t scream of an airline concerned with the bottom line, but makes a good story to spread on the spotting mounds. Manchester does suffer a bad reputation, that much is true, but the new manager, Chris Woodroffe, has worked hard to improve that reputation. And certainly complaints are well, well down, with the vast majority of passengers now passing through security in less than 15 minutes. So, Manchester certainly isn’t as bad as last year. Also, Liverpool hasn’t been opened because of Apron space problems at Manchester. It’s been opened primarily to take a market share away from Easyjet holidays at Liverpool, and what better than to fight them at the source. Manchester gained 1 extra based aircraft from Jet2 this summer, and combined with the Liverpool 4, that makes 5 more based aircraft in the northwest. There was never a plan to add 5 more aircraft at Manchester in one go, and with no reduction in MAN based flights to accommodate the Liverpool growth, there is absolutely no solid or written evidence from Jet2 that they came to Liverpool due to space constraints at Manchester. What they have said is there is strong demand from the Merseyside area which makes a Liverpool base working alongside their MAN base the more plauseable reason. Unless Jet2 confirm themselves that space at Manchester was the reason for Liverpool being opened, it’s pure rumour and speculation at best. And anyway, surely as Liverpool airport supporters, you’d rather the reason for Jet2 at LPL being a strong market rather than being MANs sloppy seconds only because they didn’t have space at MAN?

I don't think too many people believe the reason for the Jet2 arrival at LPL is connected with problems at Manchester. Most of us believe it's more connected with a market observed at LPL and a partial rebalanceing of the shift away from LPL to MCR by the other two operators in recent years.Time will tell. So far I am impressed at the way Jet2 have attacked this new opening.
