I have finally admitted defeat trying to get my trustee old Canon 3200F slide scanner to work properly. Everything is now coming up with a distinct blue hue. Advice from others on here, with whom I have been in contact is of the opinion it is knackered. Tried everything. Thrown in the trowel.
Now I am looking for recommendation for a new one. I see all prices from €450 downwards. Obviously one at the lower price end would be a good idea. I am looking for something which will scan and digitise my 35mm slides to a good level so I can manipulate them in paint.net for this forum. If you have something to sell, that would be good too.
Thanks in advance.
Ron

I came across Rons post regarding his Canon scanner so I sent a few emails to him in attempts to diagnose the issue. Canon hobbyist/consumer grade scanners back then had a reputation for solid build and were the epitome of reliability. Yes you can get decent resolution for £200 or so new but the build quality is truly awful. It is very common in recent times due to component pricing and shortage for manufacturers to "build to last 13 months, build to make repair uneconomical or impossible". Ron's Canonscan 3200f has new life and has been saved from a final trip to the recycle centre. Mike

Yes, totally brilliant and totally indebted to Mike, for the second time. Its a combination of working with the Canon to get round a fault which is clearly evident and then using post processing tools to make the best of the result. I am still working on some images and will post them soon. Just working on some of the things I have been taught in the last 48 hours.
This result shows the benefit of being a member of a community like this; and meeting friends, whom I have never met in person, and yet with a common interest, wonderful things can be done.

Ron.... Certainly agree the internet can be a great way to tap into all the expertise that is certainly out there. Many positives but some negatives too. I guess that applies to quite a few things in life, the motorcar to name but one.
