Currently 2 Chinooks and 3 Merlins. Expecting another three helicopters. Usually Wildcats.

There is a path that runs next to the railway line this runs pretty much the length of the base - easy to see to Google Maps
I went a couple of years ago and the views were very limited unless they take off while you are there

Been down to recce the parking area at Altcar but be aware the rough ground where one could park on the last exercise next to the footpath has been developed and landscaped.
Had to park in a new housing estate but was getting funny looks so i sprinted away.
I was going park much further away but the heavens opened so back again Wednesday.
Did anyone else have any luck.

I went about two years ago I parked on the entrance side to Altcar on a public road. The guy in the corner house came out and told me to move bear in mind I wasn't even outside his house. I told him I wouldn't be long next minute his son come running up behind me shouting loads of abuse I then walked back to the car and asked him what was up said I couldn't park there. Anyway I called the police as his lad started punching my car they said I was in the right and could park there. If I go back this year I'll park maybe at the train station. |

We all did, it no longer exists. There is a fence in the way so no parking.

I'm here now chinooks just over the fence from me no action though just spoke to a local lady she said it was non stop yesterday
