Good Morning everyone.
I am finding myself passing Heathrow next week, so I am planning on stopping for a break at the Academy viewing area for an hour. Has anyone visited recently, as it has been several years since my last visit? Is it still pay cash to park, or do I need to download myself an (unfathomable) app to pay for the parking nowadays.
Thanks
Steve

Ok as I’ve only visited at weekends and never had to pay.

I visited of a Thursday lunchtime, just for 30 minutes or so. The parting ticket machine (pay by cash) was covered over by a big heavy black bag. The tariff list was also hidden. APCOA had 'pay by text' billboards up. But as you cannot see how much the tarrifs were, it was impossible to see. I spoke to two other spotters who said they have not paid for their visit.
Lets wait and see if we get the nasty little letter from the parking company in a week or two.
Regards
Steve

Steve.... Please do keep us up to date. In the circumstances you describe I cannot see how any contract exists between you and APCOA, mind you I am no lawyer, although I have taken an interest in some of the tricks these parking companies get up to.... Planemike

I made a return visit on Thursday last week. The weather was a little better, so I was able to get out and about and chat to some of the regulars.
The coin payment machine is still covered over. The car parking fee notice is badly damaged and hard to read.
If you call the APCOA number, they will charge you £1.50 per hour. However, at the moment their is no camera covering the car park, so numberplates are not automatically registered.
Apparently APCOA do send an enforcement van round occasionally, but no action seems to be taken when it is seen in the car park.

Steve.. So in the conditions you describe, it would appear, it is all down to how honest you feel.....!! PM

If I was pulling an all-dayer I think I would pay. But as my two visits totalled 20 and 50 minutes I think I am safe. Famous last words.
At £1.50 an hour in the week and I believe £5 all day of a weekend then it's good value.
The trees planted on the airport perimeter do make spotting difficult and photography nigh on impossible however.
