This information really belongs in 'Nostalgia'. Tour operator, Yugotours, using Aviogenex flying Tu-134As commenced a weekly summer series in 1978 to Dubrovnik (possibly more as an alternative to Manchester's night restrictions than a desire to use Liverpool), and continued to operate from Liverpool in summer 1979 to Pula. Yugoslavia was served by Yugotours each summer from Liverpool until the end of the 1991 season using several different airlines. With the break-up of the former Yugoslavian state becoming serious in winter 1991/92, so tourism to the region collapsed as the result of the civil conflict, causing the planned 1992 season to be cancelled from the whole of the UK. With no business Aviogenex soon collapsed. Yugotours struggled on for a time using Bulgarian resorts, but eventually ceased trading too. Main annual destination was Pula, but Dubrovnik and Split were served too, using Aviogenex, JAT and Inex-Adria Airlines. All visits by Tu-134s to Liverpool are recorded a number of posts down, on thread: derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/16960/soviet-designed-types-liverpool-airportAviogenex Tu-134A YU-AJW on Friday 4th May 1979 operating the inaugural outbound JJ109/110 flight to Pula. Yugotours and Aviogenex to Pula were a summer fixture through to early season 1988, with Yugotours using DC-9 operators continuing through to the end of the 1991 season.
