The forecast suggested some sunshine, so a first visit of the year to Moore was in order: Social media posts from the warden warned that work had taken place on the trees along the old canal path after the storms, but nothing was mentioned about those alongside the lane by the car park ....it looked like the pictures you see from a war zone! There is lots of water on the reserve and one main path is flooded. The sunshine never really appeared: A few things seen: Wigeon by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Wigeon by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Little Grebe by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Gadwall by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Gadwall by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Great Tit by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Coal Tit by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Bluetit by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Blackbird by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Blackbird by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Scarlet elf cap fungus by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Ivy berries by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Light was poor by the time I reached the Pumphouse pool: Goldeneye (F) by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Goldeneye (M) by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr Goldeneye (M) by Philip Gaulton, on Flickr So, not a great deal to excite but I did briefly see a kingfisher fly low across the water in front of me and a sparrow hawk flew in front of a hide`in close pursuit of a thrush and out of view again. It was a pleasant few hours, but the state of the site was shocking, especially the tree loss and the manner of the work done.
