G-DRTK - would be a bit unusual for this to be football related, is it not more likely that with just 5 weeks to their first revenue flight to be a visit for publicity and/or 'on the job' training.

My thoughts too. London clubs often travel up by train these days and fly back, depending on the time the match finishes.

Could this be a form of training for Jet 2 pilots to get familliar with LPL arrival and departures. Before Easyjet set up their 2nd base they were always training at LPL.

Apologies will be accepted, lol
I think if Jet2 were going to bring an aircraft into Liverpool for publicity reasons, it would have been the day they announced the base, and they didn't!

This takes me back a very long time, mid 60's. I was involved with Phil Butler and two other guys I cannot remember whom, in putting together some research and a report showing how Liverpool was badly underserved by IT flights. Thomsom/Britannia Airways took up the report and obviously did some other work of their own leading to a programme of flights which ran some some years, using B737 and B707 aircraft.
On publicity day, a 737 was flown up to Speke for a trip around the bay, (Belfast and back...with lunch served). It was essentially for the benefit of the press, but a nice touch was the invitation to participate, received by we four.. Which we did of course.

Don't remember the report but I certainly do remember the 707,worked on it and help start it up many a time, who can't forget the start up sequence. The only air start we had was a bottle air start, bottles of compressed air,(1 go and it was gone),when No.3 engine was started it was throttled up to 90% and air was bled from it to start the other 3 engines, what a noise, you could feel the vibration through the concrete, those were the days.
