Three KC-10As had positioned to McGuire from Travis to bring a dozen Aviano F-16s back to Europe. I thought it was worth the journey to Mildenhall to catch the tankers, as the type is due to be retired this September and it could be my last opportunity to see one. The first two groups of F-16s flew straight on to Spangdahlem without stopping. The third tanker was delayed by a day, and flew to Mildenhall without F-16s in tow. I assume the latter are still in the US. At least two of the three KC-10s left on 26 February, supporting the transit of a group of Lakenheath F-15s to an exercise at Nellis. 24 Feb...a frosty start at Folly Road. 60-0335 KC-135T by Dan Sprague, on Flickr 59-1511 KC-135R by Dan Sprague, on Flickr 60-0335 KC-135T by Dan Sprague, on Flickr A KC-135 departing to Fairchild. 59-1476 KC-135R by Dan Sprague, on Flickr Cafe61, a MacDill KC-135, takes off to meet up with a reworked F-16 from Spangdahlem for the crossing.
