Not sure it deserves a dedicated thread, only because nowadays it is radio scanning wise, impossible to know what it is "UP" for, so apart from seeing it visually flying around or hovering for any length of time it reduces it for me to yet another overflight of a police helicopter. As it can be up and down more often than a call girls lingerie it will tell you not a lot. That`s only my opinion though.

"It's the official website which lists their taskings Only it is usually days behind and as can be seen tells you very little which is quite correct.

its not there to give evryone the rundown on what its doing. quick info about what its doing is sutiable in my eyes. We should be thankful for it as its on the list to be chopped and for us to share with Cheshire which i think is ridiculous. Currently it can get from Woodvale to Liverpool City in 5 mins and reach anywere else in 10

We should be thankful for it as its on the list to be chopped and for us to share with Cheshire which i think is ridiculous. I understand from the police that they plan to cover Merseyside using either the Lancs unit at Warton, the Greater Manchester unit at Barton or the Cheshire / North Wales unit at Hawarden, whichever heli is the most appropriate & available. I live in Merseyside but Hawarden is much closer to me than Woodvale!

This cut is on a par with cutting the Harrier Force and leaving aircraft carriers with NO aircraft. Police Air Support Units only grew because of the fact they actually worked and are a fantastic crime deterrent. I would rather get rid of the useless PCSO`s who are nothing more than a visual con to the public, their limited and restricted power is worthless when compared to a helicopter manned by professionals equipped with state of the art electronics AND a power of arrest. Criminals will soon cotton on that a crime being committed in Southport will be less of a risk of being caught if the ASU is coming from somewhere near RUTHIN because the ASU from Warton and Barton are on task just as far away.

Absolutely right Biggles, it'll certainly put strain on resources on the ground. PCSOs do a job, though, in that they provide a visible presence in the local community - Merseyside's policy of Total Policing and Total War On Crime requires a visible presence but, as you say, their limited powers mean they are, and cannot, be used as effectively as something like the ASU. Specials are being and will be used more and more, but with the majority working 9-5, the standard Thurs/Fri/Sat night patrols of the SC don't make up for the money 'wasted' on excessive numbers of PCSOs.

I better not start a reply about the waste and ineffectiveness of specials and PCSO`s as having spent bearly 30 years in "the job" and knew it when is WAS an effective law enforcement force and not as it has become a service (can`t say force) which is now full of target meeting pen pushers and run by accountants and those concerned more with risk assessment, human rights and civil liberties the public have lost faith. The proposed massive cuts will have serious results on crime and justice, none for the better. Today I was notifed that my injury pension has been cut, Thanks,,,, something the last government started, pity they couldn`t sort out the after effects of my injury combined with my age now. I still have relatives in the job some high ranking so please don`t come on and tell me I do not know what I am saying. You only have to look at the way he latest demos are being policed and resltant failings to see how things have gone wrong with decision making from the top. I need another tablet now Alex
