Received an e mail last night from another forum I am a member of saying the mound at Madrid is closed at the minute due to building works! I am there with the g/f in just over 2 weeks overnight from JLA, so this is not a good bit of news for us. Does anyone have any info re this? When I was there last year with a mate we spotted with no probs from the terminal due to bad weather, but I do like the mound and the views are good. Any replies would be appreciated and if anyone knows if this is a permanent thing or temporary.
Thanks
Bob

I'm curious here, which "mound"? When I went there was a large mound with a type of sub station underneath an electric pylon with man eating stick insects crawling over my camera bag with a huge drop in front. Or there is a smaller mound down below it which is closer to the action with no shelter.

Hi Bob I'm off to Madrid on the 12th for a couple of days spotting not good news reading your post, but on a positive note as Steve said in his post there are 2 mounds as I remember quite a bit of distance between them so hopefully I cant see the building work being on both of them . I will post details when I get back with updates of the building work. Regards,
Peter.

Peter, thanks for the mail, and I look forward to hearing about your trip and the mound etc. We are off on Sunday 20th from JLA, stopping overnight in Barajas, so handy for the mound and the airport. Have a great trip

After visiting MAD for the weekend with my brother I can say that both ''mounds'' are open and OK to use however the bigger mound this is the one you walk pass the allotments and over the footbridge to get to there does seem to be some sort of work going on looks as if the ground is being graded only seen one digger/tractor bearing in mind it was the weekend looking back from where we spotted from we could see a few people up there walking the dogs , cycling etc, we spotted from the smaller/lower mound nearer to the perimeter fence had no issues with security/police whats so ever we had a great day and a bit spotting .I will post some pics/logs later in the week. Bob hope this helps on your forth coming trip.

No problem Bob,hope you enjoy it,first time my brother had been to MAD spotting he thought it was great anyways have fun out there.Just a word of warning check the weather before you go it was very cold when we was there you needed to be wrapped up as there is no shelter from the wind.
