I was asked this question the other day. What is the name of the airfield at 3 Sisters Race track and Water Ski centre at Ashton-in-Makerfield, nr Wigan. It has 3 runways, 27-09, 36-18 and 22-04. I have no idea and have googled it to no avail. Here is the Google map of the area. Regards Beemer.

I have never heard of any aircraft landing here - but it definatley looks like runways. I was at 3 sisters late last year to watch a friend have a track day and didn't see anything Just found this site, but no mention of the runways www.friendsof3sisters.org.uk/Ian

Thanks to you both for that but I still can't find anything about the airfield other than the mention of it's title in LAAS. It must still be used as the r/w numbers appear to be freshly painted and there are markers along the length. Regards Beemer.

Thats very intrigueing. The runways look to be very short (measured on Google Earth at 230m) so i guess that would restrict it to microlights. Pity they couldn't put all the runways end to end, then i could have a go at it!
Cheers

Thanks for that Shaun. I hadn't considered that the runways are only long enough for microlights but it still remains a mystery that I have never heard mention of this airfield/strip before. Regards Beemer.

Yep, I think that would do the job 'Biggles'. Are there any Zenith CH 801's in the UK?
Cheers

G-INFO only shows 3 Zeniths but they are CH250 Models which are low wing aircraft not unlike a Jodel

I was at Barton today and asked a few people about this airfield. The general opinion was that it is used by motorised parachutes!
Cheers

No mention in Bryan Lockyear's 3rd edition (circa 1999) of 'Farm Strips and Private Airfields Flight Guide'.
