Popped down to Aintree this morning for a couple of hours. Lovely to stand around in what is the best weather of the year upto now. Nice to meet Barfleur, Ian531, Viscount, Beemer, Carmedic, Kenny Airbus and others. At last a face to the names. Some pictures to follow. Ian.

Log for Aintree, Saturday 9th April in warm bright sunshine, cloudless sky and light breeze from the south-east. Observations started a little later than I intended, so cover only 1025-1250, by which time it had all gone quiet aviation-wise. Only disappointment was that they were using the 09 end of the helicopter strip, so the landing helicopters were further away from 'spotters field', where 17 of us had gathered, although those helicopters departing were photogenically posed infront of us. Great to see everyone gathered, the word is spreading as we were only 7 in number last year. Thanks to everyone for help in providing this list, especially to 'Robbo'. I missed the earliest movements, and it is impossible to tell how many helicopters had night-stopped (although it would appear that at least one, the Hughes 500, did so) as the parking area is obscured. By my count 23 different helicopters - exactly the same number as logged last year. I witnessed 33 landings, but there had been a few before I got there. One helicopter 'missing' this year was the Liverpool Police EC.135, which was not seen at all. Again, a smooth operation by controllers, marshallers and pilots. Final arrival was a little earlier this year than last, at 1234. Great number of trailing fly-overs seen. Lower down a Woodvale Grob to the north 1100ish, and also to the north Cessna 172S G-GFEA at 1145, while overhead positioning inbound for 09 at Liverpool were the KLM Fokker 70 1237 and Ryanair's EI-DAI at 1240.

Viscount, I think the Hughes 500 N7172Z may have night stopped as we were there at 08:30hrs and nothing moved. Regards Beemer.

Some great photos from all of you. I'm afraid I was lazy yet again, and despite planning to come over , ended up watching from the back garden with scanner and binoculars. Good to see closeups of the various heli's I'd seen shuttling back and forth all day. G-PIXL looked like it was getting buffeted around a bit when it was on camera duty for the various races, was watching it and the tail was wagging quite a bit at times Nice relaxing early evening listening & watching all the heli's leaving for the last time , most with "see you again next year"
