Had to drive down the coastal road at Southport to-day for a delivery. I havn't been to Ainsdale for years and was pleasantly surprised to see a model of a Lockheed aircraft has been erected on a roundabout next to the Sands pub. It was put there June last year and I was in a hurry so couldn't stop to take a photo so I have borrowed a couple from the Southport Forum which look better quality than I could take. Reason for it. "On May 13, 1937 Dick Merrill and Jack Lambie took off from Ainsdale beach for another transatlantic flight in a twin engine Lockheed Electra monoplane completing the journey in 24 hours and 22 minutes. On this flight the two journalists were carrying the first newsreel film of the coronation of King George VI to go back to the USA." Regards Beemer.
