Hi Michael. They frequently use the Playing Fields next to Lower Lane Police Station when they are transporting casulties/patients to or from Fazakerly Hospital. May well be they are awaiting further instructions etc. or that there is a technical problem. Hope this helps. p.s. Ken no trace of this Sea-King on my Basestation Reporter. Cheers. If it`s gone tech, let`s hope its fixed pronto, before the locals weigh it in.

If 'they' do as you say it wont say much for the local Polis seeing as the way into the field (with a vehicle) where the helicopter would land is via the said constabulary's car park!

LpL .......It didn`t bother the local mafia who hit the Police Helicopter at RAF Woodvale (twice).
I was however. sort of joking.

Was the fact this heli came from Leconfield and not Valley another sign of defence cuts and resources ?

I would suspect not.
A Sea King from a Detachment other than HQ Flt Valley is not that unusual occasionally calling for fuel at Liverpool. However, it is a little unusual for a helicopter to be called in from elsewhere for a Mersey rescue. Presumably the alert Sea King at Valley was already on a task, and it was quicker to call in the alert Sea King from Leconfield (and looking at an Atlas the straight line distance is not that much greater) than wait for the back-up to be readied at RAF Valley.
Looking at the photo the Sea King, it has the Mallard badge of 202 Sqdn and Commemorative wording on the fuselage side. The squadron badge is though normally positioned on the nose.

Thanks Viscount, I wonder if the one I reported in through the zone was the same one which had gone tech.
