Well,
Thats someone's budding career as a tug driver cut short then!
Hope they don't deduct the repair bill from his salary!

Viscount, I remember meeting an alitalia flight at Gatwick when I worked there, I was on the jettyhead as the despatcher "drove" the jetty onto the Md80. As we got closer the aircraft jumped........a loader had decided to play bumper cars with it. It peirced the outer skin but not the inner, but it still meant the outbound flight was cancelled and the pax were transferred to LHR. The aircraft was there for a couple of weeks before she eventually flew home at a lower level, empty. The loader was still working there when I left!!!!!!!!

Anyone remember the Treffield Aviation Britannia being marshalled into George Olleys 'hallowed' Customs area? Under normal conditions, not a problem! On this occasion, the aircraft was a tad too close to the terminal building and the port wingtip travelled up onto the canopy area! Don't remember the extent of the damage caused; methinks more to the marshaller's ego than the acft!

Oh yes, that brings back memories. I was on the balcony when it happened. Midweek evening if I remember - they used to position in to operate Inclusive Tour flights (for Arrowsmith / CTA I think). I can remember there was an aircraft by the British Eagle gate - gate 2, plus another aircraft on the eastern side of the customs area (Aer Lingus viscount?) So, it was a bit of a tight fit, and the marshaller turned him to face east too late. I don't recall anyone assisting the marshaller, but I do remember him signalling the aircraft to stop because the left wingtip did look VERY close to the terminal. Unfortunately, he then proceeded to marshall him to continue with the resultant consequences. If he had a wing-walker to assist in marshalling, this would never have happened. It was amazing that more incidents like this did not occur around the country. Can't remember what happened with the flight as I had to bike home. I presume they flew a replacement aircraft in a few hours later and ferried the aircraft to be repaired.

Bit of a massive thread topic drift here!
Treffield's life as an IT operator with Viscounts and a single Britannia was brief. Britannia 102 G-ANBM was delivered 5th May 1967 on lease from Laker. G-ANBM first appeared at Liverpool Airport on Saturday 13th May, from Barcelona and outbound on Sunday 14th to Palma. As is the case with Phil Butler's (and others) Airport Visitor Logs, is once an aircraft had appeared for the first time in a year on a regular scheduled operation, it was not noted again. So after the 14th visits don't appear in our records.
However, two weeks later, on Sunday 28th May G-ANBN of Laker appeared from Gatwick to Palma and later from Palma to Gatwick. If G-ANBM had to be substituted having sustained damage, when inbound from Barcelona Saturday 27th, this is a good candidate, but at a weekend. Although there is another possible occasion, as Laker's G-AVBX BAC.1-11 on Wednesday 31st May operated in from Gatwick and out to Perpignan. There is no note in the logs regarding 'BM being damaged, but I didn't expect there to be - research is never that easy!
Treffield, as an operator ceased operations Friday 23rd June 1967.

Brian....it could well have been on a Saturday, but I was sure it was midweek because I often biked down to the airport in the evenings on a schoolnight. I do remember that it was positioning in empty - but that could have been the case with the inbound flight from Barcelona that you mentioned, as an early season return flight would have indeed been empty inbound. Thanks for the research...ahh the memories.
