Obviously the helicopters are being based where they are needed and the other areas are greater than ours.

I really don't beleive that last comment from LPL has been fully thought through - or is it unclear sarcasm ?
How can Manchester require cover by 4 helicopters, yet Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales will all require transit times for every call-out? The removal of Merseyside's own helicopter cover is dictated not by operational need but by financial consideration and national policy, not common sense or local need. Look at the map on the link, the central position is nowhere near Barton!

Viscount,
I don't think all four helis are to be based at Barton. I think bases are as they were apart from Woodvale (Police) closing.

I heard about this a few months ago and thought it sounded crazy from a response time point of view. I regularly see (sorry....saw ) G-XMII over or near the house, kind of a free regular airshow at times. I guess it shouldn't take too long before I see one of the replacements overhead, it will be interesting to see if we notice any change in the frequency.

What's all the fuss about? It doesn't matter where they are based.
All it means for me and the missus is that we will get a few more minutes sleep before the damn thing hovers around our estate in the middle of the night!
I am sure it is operated by vampires as it only seems to come out late at night - from midnight to 03:00.

As we speak Police 04, G-CPAO EC135 is operating over Halton Brook, Runcorn with the side roads covered by police cars with lights flashing. Some one is up to no good some where. Regards Beemer.

Dont get me started on this. if they want to save money get rid of the boat as it sits in liverpool marina doing sweet FA 90% of the time. All Forces have Merges Air Support Units to become the North West Air Operations based at Newton Le Willows Highways Control Centre same place were the motorway units are controlled from aswel as the Highways Agency stuff. Even though Merseyside doesnt have a chopper now we are the lead force so are in charge of the whole operations. Until they can see if it works out Mike 1 will still be at woodvale as a back up

After years of the local 'riff raff' doing their utmost to destroy Merseyside's chopper, along come the Tories, oops, sorry, I mean along come the Tory Democrats and they do a far better job! It's not right and it definately is not clever. Don't have nightmares!

Perhaps those who suffer sleep deprivation due to the air support unit working nights, they should maybe consider if it was THEY who had had THEIR home broken into and been beaten senseless by the intruders who then escaped in YOUR pride and joy motor car with all your valuables. perhaps you may change your mind about the value of an air support unit disturbing your sleep. It may be of interest to know that Mike I now lives locked away in a hanger unused and for sale which it has been for 2 years. For sale that is even when it was being used. The crews not all have been spread over the force area (GROUND BASED). This is an idiotic decision made by high ranking so called police officers to save money, perhaps they could explain how Merseyside unit was the busiest and was removed, also how if The Lancashire Unit is in service, Manchester unit is on serious task, and the only unit available is N Wales air support which given the size of the area it covers could be many miles away on task but available has to make its way to say SOUTHPORT for an emergency response. ? Cheshire could be unserviceable also.
So common sense does dictate that where the unit is based IS IMPORTANT, you may not like the sound but they are I can assure you a huge deterrent to crime and prevention, far more that any number of PCSO`s, Specials and the huge number of useless civvy posts.
