My thoughts with 6AEF and the cadet's family. I do hope that the Board of Inquiry takes note of the 6th Tutor-related death in 6 months... white aircraft VFR in the wrong conditions are, and proven to be, lethal.

I totally agree Alex, I do not understand the reason they did not follow and apply the black paint used on other training aicraft. One report I have read states that the Tutor climbed directly upwards into or through the glider which was at a higher level. Sad whatever the cause, but should not happen.

Iam in local air cadets (Woolton) and we fly the tutors at 10AEF, Woodvale.
Tonight after having a 1 minute silence for the sad loss, we wheir informed as a result ALL AEF / Flying in the Grob Tutor has being suspended, until further notice!

I do not understand the reason they did not follow and apply the black paint used on other training aicraft. They claim they can't paint the aircraft due to the material they are made from. If painted, the added weight makes the airframe structurally unstable and unsafe... though something needs to be done. Sad.

Yes, all AEF flying has been suspended. The tutors arent painted black mainly beacsue it absorps sunlight which could effect the Carbon Fibre which makes up 96% of its structure. The Firefly's are yellow, I assume it would be an improvment on white?
I met the pilot of the tutor briefley, he seemed a really nice guy. Another sad day for the RAF and its wider family.

Thanks Alex, I had forgotten about the material used. It`s the same with gliders, probably a contributing reason for this mid air, as the glider would be as hard to see for the Tutor crew also.

Maybe high viz stripes like those on the Vigilants would be the best option. The tutor display a/c has blue stripes on the wings after all, so its not impossible

Yep, they must come up with something. Apparently, the stripes on WL and XN's wings and the roundel underneath is just like the decals on airfix models. The stripes that are on the Vigi and Vikings make alot of sense.
