H.M.S. Liverpool leaving the river mersey for the last time. She sailed up river to Camell Laird"s for a 5 gun salute, as she passed the 3 grace"s she fired a final 5 gun salute. A proud moment for a great ship wearing a proud name for our great city.

George Jones boarded the ferry to watch the proceedings. Here is one of his, capturing the Liverpool Liver Building behind the departing HMS Liverpool.

A missed opportunity for the City to try and get the ship to remain as a final resting place. Looking at the smoke doesn`t look like the engines will last much longer anyway ?

not much would get away from her with them engines. she has rolls royce olympus's in the hull like concorde so will move. was a very sad day but the send off from former cheif pilot stuart wood was brilliant and the 5 gun salute was excellent

Nice photos. Evoque, I remember listening to her jet engines as she left the Mersey for the very first time some 30 years ago. Recon you must have been twinkle in your mums eye back then.
