Listening to the radio tx Rescue Operation taking place today for the sunk vessel off the Welsh coast, it came as a surprise to me that when Kinloss Rescue operator was giving some freqs for the Ops to the Irish Asset c/s C235 a fixed wing (sad not a Nimrod though) he gave 122.225 as vhf and FM channel 0. The Irish crew informed Kinloss they did not have Channel 0 pre set and had no idea what the digits for that would be, it took quite some time for an answer be given that channel 0 is actually 156.0 As that is a basic channel how come Kinloss didn`t know that right away I wondered. A sad event all round made even worse by no fixed wing assets from UK and also the news that our Local Coast Gaurd station is due for closure amongst many others. Seems people forget the UK is an island surrounded by water.

All part of the plan to make this country a third world impotent state , no-one agrees to these plans but they get trotted out at fairly regular timeframes with no questions allowed , no-one seems to realise the old adage "If it aint broke dont try and fix it ".... as regard to the coastguard service being reoganized why not go all the way and transfer it too 'India' plenty of call centre experience there and cheap as chips .

( More than likely because they very rarely have to give it out in Freq terms, only ever a channel. It's usually a preset on the aircraft and rarely, if ever, listened to at ARCC itself.

Another rescue was perfromed on tuesday night by the RN crews fromthe same jetty. Cargo Ship Carrier lost power as she came off the berth and got beached by the high waves. Rescue 177 was the first on scene due to Valleys not being available which then became unserviceable and had to depart leaving the winchmsn snd 2 crew members aboard the vessel. irish coast guar deployed 2 choppers but were stood down. Yet again proving Liverpool Coastguard shouldnt close down as they were in charge of this incident

I read the news report on this rescue off the N Wales coast and didn`t understand until this post why a Heli Rescue Unit had flown from Ayrshire to N Wales after carrying out a rescue on Mt McDui prior to flying down to N Wales. It seems that Valley had their unit go U/S just shows the state that the Rescue Units are being allowed to deteriorate into. I thought there was more than Helicopter at Valley ? It turned out to be a brilliant rescue by the Scottish Unit but it could have become so much worse.
