???Watched the original "Italian job" movie last night and still can't id the type of plane that the gold is unloaded from. It looks like the wings might be from a B29 ? . so it a boeing Please can I have an answer, I am usually good with my aircraft recon.

Nice link to remind us of those US photos on the now quiet 'Gate Guards' thread, showing very nicely the two-deck C-124 Globemaster II. The original link shows the C-74 Globemaster I, with a more conventional fuselage cross-section. It was a Globemaster I, that featured in the 'Italian Job' - presumably one of two HP- Panama registered examples that languished in Italy for some years in the late 60s. Incidently that is why the current Boeing C-17 is the Globemaster III, when quoted in full by the Americans.
All three Globemasters, C-74, C-124 and C-17 have dedicated entries on wikipedia.
