Just having a clear out and came across this old Echo cutting - THURSDAY JANUARY 12 1967 - anyone recognize themselves? Caption reads - "The busy midnight scene at Liverpool Airport, with a Trident from Amsterdam in the centre. It was a bumper occasion for these memebers of the Merseyside Society of Aviation Enthusiasts"

The guy 4th from the right facing right, appears to be holding an air-band radio, who said size doesn`t matter y recall I could hire a Shorrock Air Band radio from the club MSAE and have possession for about a week. Living in Wallasey even all those years ago ATC traffic was superb and the radio was always a highlight when spending pocket money.

I wonder who amongst us has the oldest working airband radio. I still have a Sharp which must be pre-1972 as I had it when my dad was alive. My oldest functioning scanner is a Signal R-532 which is used every day. Are there any older radios still scouring the airwaves out there?

And I still have the original MGAE Shorrock, the cheaper one (£26) which was replaced by the Mk 5 (£36). I bought it cheapish when the new one arrived. It probably still works but I don't know whether the big batteries are still available.
