With the wild weather battering the southwest I very nearly rolled over and went back to bed at 6:45 yesterday. However, after a bit of persuasion on twitter I decided to give it a go, and I'm glad I did. It was nice to return to the Dawlish hill after an absence of 3 years, and the company was brilliant. The show was a little slow as many acts had to understandably cancel due to the weather (which wasn't that bad in Dawlish!) I have a lot of respect for the SWIP team and the Blades who persevered, the latter managing to fly down from the Isle of Man in horrible weather before pulling off a very low and tight routine in gusty winds. The Royal Navy made up the helicopter park with the two lynxes of the Black cats, and a rescue Sea King, both of which perfomred brilliantly. The RAF contributed the Tucano and Hawk, both of which were rather high for decent hill shots, but the tucano paint scheme is lovely. It's a shame the hawk was a standard black 208 SQN cab. Of course, the highlight of any Dawlish display is the Red Arrows, and even as a 7 ship they did not disappoint, offering superb low passes over the hill. i managed to see the red arrows fly over exeter on the friday evening whist going out for tea, great sight!
