Mirror lens have another problem and that is the filters they use are fitted at the opposite end of the lens than normal screw on filters would be on a normal lens. If that makes sense. What`s wrong apart from cost that is, of a 300 mm lens with a 2x converter or 10-400IS lens. Not sure what make camera you have though stu ?

Thanks Starways and Biggles for your input. Biggles, I use a Nikon fitting 70-300, so probably I could use the 2x converter. But you also use quality with using converters, hence me looking for something more suitable.

Have a look at this site, some useful info mainly directed at the bird watcher. You could be talking some serious money though. www.digiscoping.co.uk/Alan

Thanks for the link Alan. Serious money is something i've not got alot of. I'm partly thinking of matching it up with a SBS system. But i did find a scope shop in Stockport www.telescopesandbinoculars.co.uk/acatalog/NEW_BRANCH.htmlSo i might pop down sometime and see what scope is best for me as there's so many out there that i just can't make a decision until i visit.

Stu check out this link www.targeta.co.uk/You may already have seen this but if not, the guy uses 2x converters for some of his shots he doesn`t appear to lose much quality. But then again of your using Nikon equipment the type of lens he uses would come expensive.
