Hi guys, I'm after some help/advice please?
My trusty pole gave up the ghost at EBACE this year, now I need a replacement.....8x21 bins just dont cut it I'm afraid!!! I need to hold it and see how it feels in my hands, and how good the optics are, so I really dont want to just get one from an online shop. Does anyone know if they have spotters scopes at the AVP @ MAN? Or anyone know of a decent/inexpensive shop?
Thanks
John

Hi John,
I've been using a 60mm Opticron with 24x eyepiece since 2006 and find it really good, even surviving a drop on the concrete at Fort Lauderdale after only having it for a week!
I got mine on line but Daz Kellett and his Dad got their's from the shop at the Martinmere bird reserve so might be worth a run up there. Think they do other brands than Opticron as well but I'm sure Daz will confirm this.
If you see big shaven headed guy in a dirty white 60 plate Mondeo around the Olympic "circuit" next week it'll most likely be me and you can have a look at the scope!

Cheers guys......such bloody fast replies!!! :-) Silverback, I'll be in the front pax seat of LY11 vauxhall insignia......looking knackered!!!! But I'd love a look at it please.
My old scope was a straight, but a lot nowadays seem to be bent (!!!), I need a straight one! Grinning like a small child typing this! And......the prices seem to have gone up a lot since I bought mine!!!!

Hi John As Graham suggested, I got mine from Martin Mere Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust near Burscough - they have an In-Focus store there. Details can be found on line at www.at-infocus.co.uk/martinmere.htmlThe do offer other equipment, but after having a look at Graham's Opticron (did you really only get it in '06 - I got mine in Jan '06 and you obviously had that before mine!) I've been using the Opticron GS665GA fieldscope with a HDF 25xWW eyepiece (just under £400 all in) and it hasn't let me down since purchase - unlike my dad's (exactly the same equipment) - but the chaps at In Focus and Opticron have sorted that for him and they even offered him a loan of an Opticron IS model with zoom eyepiece whilst his was in for repairs. Although you have to pay to get in to Martin Mere, if you are only going to the In Focus shop, if you get your ticket stamped by them, you get your entrance refunded - or you certainly used to! I'll be the knackered looking one in the passenger side of Graham's dirty white Mondeo - so you can compare mine as well. Cheers Darren

Cheers guys......have spent a bit of time looking at both sites.....and googling too! :-)
Am I right in saying that nowadays you buy the pole.....and then you have to buy the eyepiece seperately?

Am I right in saying that nowadays you buy the pole.....and then you have to buy the eyepiece seperately? That's right John. Most spotting scopes, as opposed to draw tubes, have interchangeable eyepieces. I use a x28 wide angle eyepiece which covers 99% of my needs but I also have a x70 that sees very occasional use. There are zoom eyepieces but I've not used any. GC
