Very well done to all concerned. I am not an avid sports fan, but I found myself watching many sports and not only those where Team GB or France were taking part. I thought the whole show was captivating. London and The British people were at their best. As Cameron said. "The world knows what we can do and we have perhaps rediscovered ourselves". Lets hope it lasts.
Of course my French friends cannot take our success with the grace it deserves and we have endured plenty of light hearted banter in the last days. Finally they acknowledged our success in the "non athletic" areas, such as sailing shooting and horse riding.
I had to point out that we have always been good at these activities, citing Henry 5th's Gold Medal performance at Agincourt 1415 ( Gold for Archery), Nelson's Gold for sailing at Trafalgar in 1805 and Wellington's Gold in the horse riding arena at Waterloo in 1815.
That was game set and match. We had a good laugh and broke out another bottle of Champagne to celebrate " Londres 2012 et l' Entente Cordiale"
