The Irish Times has reported that Ryanair will drop a number of routes due to a row with the UK CAA over the operation of Ryanair UK. Routes reportedly to be discontinued from Liverpool are to the Londonderry and Marrakech.
The row centres around Ryanair UK's planned use of wet-leased foreign registered (e.g. Ryanair) aircraft to operate the bulk of the subsidiaries operations.

It seems from what I have read, of the 400+ aircraft in the Ryanair fleet, only one of them is registered to Ryanair UK. It might be practical for R UK to lease from Ryanair but this generates no fees to the CAA for the services they deliver. If that's the case, it a bit unfair.

Ryanair agreed to the CAA proposals two years ago. Easyjet and Wizz Air have complied with no problems as will Aer Lingus when they commence Belfast City and Manchester ops.
But, obviously Ryanair think they are exempt because they are "special".

Around how many internal British routes and routes from Britain to destinations outside the EU, does Ryanair currently operate - apart from the two we know about from John Lennon? Clearly even if Ryanair UK had 'British' aircraft, then Liverpool's routes being separate from (presumably) Stansted hub routes, that creates an unconnected network dilemma.

Ryanair non-EU routes from Manchester are to Belfast International, Kiev, Marrakech and Oslo Torp.

If Ryanair were smarter with Ryanair UK then it could open new markets for them from the UK to Egypt, Iceland, Israel, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey. Turkey, in particular, would give Ryanair UK tremendous growth opportunities from the UK.

At last now hopefully 2 of these might be based at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

With only one UK registered aircraft at the moment Londonderry seems to have been dropped until 28th January when it resumes at four per week.

Ryanair has cancelled pretty much all of its programme through to the end of March. There are perhaps half a dozen flights a week showing (mainly to Canaries) with a few more around February half term. Liverpool by no means alone in the cancellations.
