I have read elsewhere an American Airline is looking to expand into Europe, known as MESA. If memory serves me right, this company was behind the carrier known as Community Express which had some operations from Liverpool. This is some years ago.

Something in the LPL Echo about extending the runway,Hale is strongly opposed.

The Echo could be positive for a change with respect to an airport development !

Some very good positive comments on the Echo article, however we have seen flash in the pan ideas before 10 years ago and nothing came of them. By now according to the last master plan we should have had a new cargo apron along with new maintenance facilities by 2016, but as usual zilch. I just hope that this Airport director really is going to go all the distance with this latest master plan.

It’s all to do with Halton Council’s Local Plan and making sure it supports the airport Masterplan. It makes development no more likely but at least creates a supportive planning framework should the airport feel confident enough to go for a runway extension.

How long realistically would the runway be lengthened ? would it around 1000ft? i would of thought 8500ft would be adequate for the likes of a A350 or B787 assuming they can attract the traffic first. Wonder would they contact airlines first and see if they can attract the airlines before extending the runway for larger aircraft.
In my opinion i believe the only longhaul traffic that could work from LPL is longhaul leisure like carribean and maybe florida places like that .

Extensions (including starter strips) would take the runway to 2,750m (around 9,000ft).

East Midlands runway is 9500ft and manages to operate intercontinental flights , all be it, cargo. With current problems the cargo airlines have increased their business as the changes in people’s buying takes hold. Experts predict that the changes we’ve seen over the pandemic will change the way we all buy things. The use of cash to cards. On line purchasing. We are already seeing major High St shops closing down. The world is changing.

I think a link by one of the Middle Eastern carriers would work, with the amount of onward connections available.

Why all the way to the middle east? why not a KLM through Amsterdam or a Lufthansa through Frankfurt, plus with Emirates Etihad and Qatar having a very strong presence at Manchester doubt they would send one our direction, plus KLM and Lufthansa too, I reckon the terminal would need to be spruced up aswell to cater for the premium passengers too, currently at the moment think the terminal is not cutting the mustard. I would like us to get some of the routes back we have just lost, it’s sad that the network of destinations has dropped a fair bit over past 12 months but to be expected but still

Nothing in the article in the Echo is expecting an extension, just exploring the probables, don't think will be thinking of an extension for a long time one the airport has at the present well pre-pandemic traffic numbers, and aircraft types don't need it, and two the airport does not make enough money as it is

But you have to plan and build for the future.

This was being said thirty years ago and until the pandemic our 7.5K Runway was doing fine. We have a great international on our doorstep we dont need another so close when we do then the powers that be, will look again i expect until that happens let us be thankful for what we have

"on our doorstep" could stir serious conversation. Many airports co-exist near to each other. "doing fine" means standing still when we could be doing more. Liverpool Airport has not yet fulfilled its potential.
