I wonder what Southampton Airport is. I know it's small, but there has always been an airport station for as long as I can remember because of the proximity of the line.

Manchester has both heavy rail and tram services what more could they have as its still a small percentage of their total passengers.

Quite agree, it has it all. Liverpool Airport, needs a bit of transport investment now.

Quite agree, it has it all. Liverpool Airport, needs a bit of transport investment now. And as explained before they have contributed significant sums of money towards the infrastructure they have. We have to be realistic and accept that LJLA doesn’t have pockets deep enough to be able to pay towards a rail link.

I think the next stage for Liverpool airport is to re-instate a 24-hour bus link to the city centre. To be effective public transport needs to serve the 1st wave outbound of a morning, and that last wave inbound of an evening.

It’s fundamental to unlocking additional capacity across the wider north west and addressing significant capacity issues at the two largest and most congested stations Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street. The Lime Street solution actually uses a larger station at Liverpool Central hence the need for the new line.

There might be another option rather than these antiquated ideas How about a Monorail or a tracked high level people mover.
Mono rail from Liverpool City centre to the airport would do away with problems with traffic congestion with stops along the way and at Southpark way. Things have moved on from what disney had at epcot, doubt it would cost anymore than a fixed rail track, and could be built over the existing road ways .just a thought

However it's funded, it wouldn't be just from the airport.

But it does not need to go via Manchester Airport, that is not making connecting Liverpool and Manchester and the rest of the north faster, in fact you will arrive in Manchester from Liverpool in the same amount of time as now. I'm totally against a line that is not needed and will suck business away from Liverpool Airport particularly if no improvements in transportation happens here.

I’d also go for a 500-style service to Ellesmere Port / Chester and possibly Warrington. I suggest that people pick up their concerns over the rail issue with their MPs, Merseytravel and the airport. One final point would be to be careful what you wish for. The Luton Dart has ended up costing nearly £300m for a mile and a half long line. It’s put Luton Council into significant financial difficulty. Your dreams of a line to LJLA invoke a considerably bigger project for limited return and limited benefit.

You constantly refer to funding but in all the links over the last few days it shows there is at least £17 billion available from the government.
