Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, has passed away.
A sad day and modest, brave man.

GC- Fully agree with your comments- I was 18 when I witnessed this never to be forgotten event in 1969 and those immortal words as this BRAVE-GREAT man stepped onto the surface of the moon on the 20th July 1969:- "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind". US President Barack Obama said Armstrong was "among the greatest of American heroes - not just of his time, but of all time". Cannot argue with that. Sad Day and a Great Loss. Bob

Everyone, who was old enough, can remember exactly where they where when it happened. I was in a rented property in Highlands Road in Runcorn with the first Lady Beemer watching the action unfold on an old black and white telly. RIP Neil Armstrong.

I can remember being shepherded into the hall at Town Lane Infants School in Bebington to see it GC

strange exciting days ! Sputnik , Gagarin , the space race , landing on the moon , then the following 'moon rover' missions , till it got quite 'non news' till Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks at the controls . but brave brave men and women even a British guy on one of the shuttle programs .

I watched the moon landing on the tiniest black and white tv ever......may parents had not long been renting a tv either!!!! I couldn't get enough of the space race either, I can even remember doing projects on it at school too! I was 11 when I watched Neil Armstrong climb down to the surface of the moon, and it really was hard to work out what was happening on those old grainy tv pictures too!
I was honoured when i got to meet Buzz Aldrin in person at Farnborough back in 2006, so by shaking his hand, i've touched someone who has stepped on another planet!!!!! :-)
RIP Neil Armstrong 5/8/1930 to 25/8/2012
