RAF Leuchars Battle of Britain at Home Day

The weather was reasonably kind to us with brilliant sunshine but a cold wind. As usual at air shows shooting into the the sun which always causes me problems. Constantly changing exposure and not getting it right! Several aircraft could not get there because of the wind and weather at their bases. So the show had even fewer aircraft flying than the programme stated (and there was not a lot). None of the usual Belgian and Norwegian military which was disappointing because they put on fantastic displays. The Chinook gave a fantastic display. In fact, it was awesome! The Patrouille de France cancelled as well. No. 1 Squadron was "Stood up" during the display. That caused a break of more than an hour.

The good news is that there will be a show at Leuchars next year and probably in 2014. After that they will try to put a display on at another airfield. That only leaves Kinloss and Lossiemouth.

Still our weekend was good with a visit to the first operational air station in Britain at Montrose, now a museum.

Nice set of Images, what was the Static Park like for photos this year? I did think of going, but I had to fly down to London that day, but managed to take a few shots so all was not lost

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your question Cityflyer. Not looked at this thread for months! I didn't bother with the static park this year.

We look forward to our annual trip to Leuchars but the show has been more disappointing every year. With so many aircraft on operational duty they struggle to put together a good display. Booked again for this year and hopefully there will be more aircraft displaying.
