The battery pack in my two/three year old laptop now have a life of around 10 minutes (as compared to near 2 hours when new). This is aggravated by a mains connector that slips out rather too easily, so the unit shuts down rather too frequently during use!
The batteries are in a sealed cassette that can be detached from the laptop.
Question. How do I replace the batteries? Do I unscrew the container they are in and replace them, or do I buy a whole new unit? Who sells batteries for Laptops? The brand name is 'emachines', purchased from one of the large retailers, but I forget which.
Many thanks.

You can try the manufacturer of the lap top first to get an idea of the cost, they are not cheap usually. I replaced one for a lap top I purchased second hand and the cost from maker was just under £100 inc vat. Usually the battery pack can be removed by either retaining screws or a release clip. What model emachine is the lap top as you may find a new replacement on Ebay. I would suggest not second hand. as people run lap tops on mains power usually and that is what knackers the battery in the long term. Found this under Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Emachine-Voltage-Capacity-4400mAh/dp/6151018656

Thanks Biggles for a prompt reply.
The laptop is an emachines E525, so it would appear that on the link you provide, the cost for a replacement battery pack is around £30, plus delivery presumably. Not as bad as I had feared.
Thank you for your help.

Tip: When using the laptop indoors take the battery out and run on mains supply.
