In my local paper is a report of a British Enthusiast named David Cundall and with the help of the British Prime minister he approached the Myanmar new government to try and find missing British fighters from WW2. The report comes in The Daily News, Kamloops page C3 dated 18th October 2012. The excavation is expected to have started by the end of October
The report goes on that this man has visited the country 12 times and has finally found the location after many attemps in the past.
The aircraft were buried in crates to preserve them and to hide them from the invading Japanese Army.
The estimate according to the report is that about 60 aircraft have been found. Some will come to the UK and some will remain in Burma.
The aircraft have according to the report been identified as Spitfires.
Has there been anything in the UK press or on the UK news about this? If there has been, then can someone reply with the details. News from the UK is not top priority here in Canada.
If the numbers quoted turns out to be correct, then it is an unbelievable find after almost 70 years.
