Latest Bridge roadworks up-dates via the Runcorn Weekly News. *************************************************** Drivers are likely to face more delays as the current phase of maintenance works continues on the Silver Jubilee Bridge. From Tuesday, November 6, there will be short duration overnight closures from 10pm to 5.30am. on the hour every hour all traffic will be stopped from crossing the bridge for periods of 30minutes. A signed diversion route will be provided, although due to the diversion route being 16 miles it may be quicker to wait for the bridge to re-open. It will be up to the individual drivers as to which option they choose. Advance warning signs will be put up around the bridge. The overnight and weekends lane closures will also continue to be in place between 7pm and 6am, which will involve the closure of two lanes on the bridge with single lane running in each direction. The following slip roads will be closed, # Off slip from Weston Point Expressway to the Bridge-Closed most weekends and overnight. # Slip road from the Bridge to Weston Point Expressway (Trumpet Loop). # Slip road from the Bridge to Bridgewater Expressway (town viaduct) Only one of the last two closures will be implemented at any time. Suitably signed alternative routes will be provided. All traffic travelling from M56 Junction 12 Clifton will be signed via central and Bridgewater Expressway. Hope this helps. Regards Beemer.

It would appear that there are no road works on the Runcorn/Widnes bridge again this week-end. They have probably suspended them while the Christmas period to give the shoppers an easy access to the big retail parks. There will some disturbance to-morrow for the annual Santa Dash fun run across the bridge between 09:00hrs and 10:00hrs approx which I will not be partaking in. ;D Regards Beemer.

According to the local warning signs,an 'abnormal load' is due to cross the Runcorn Bridge on Sunday 16th December and may cause delays. Does anybody please know what time this is expected to happen and how long it will take? This sounds like an episode of 'Thunderbirds'...if it's a space rocket, keep well away!

I drove across the Runcorn Bridge yesterday (Tuesday) and was surprised to see that all the shrouds which were previously covering the works-in-progress have been removed. Does this mean that all the months of lane closures and delays have finally finished,or are the maintenance crews just taking a winter break?

Its right what you say Keith. The shrouding has been removed and most of the painting has been done but there are still bits that have not been done yet. The main arch on the left as you travel from Widnes to Runcorn is covered in heavy rust and the fence on either side of the carriage way is still to be treated. Maybe the paint requires a slightly warmer atmosphere to cure in than what we have had lately or is it a long break for the festive season. Regards Beemer.

It is very apparent how rusty the main arch of the bridge is now that both ends have been tidied up and repainted. I would suspect that such an ageing metal structure will probably require constant maintenance to keep it in a safe and serviceable condition. Just like a 757!
